Ostsee Anbindungsleitung (OAL)
The Ostsee Anbindungsleitung (OAL) of GASCADE Gastransport GmbH (GASCADE) is a 50-kilometre long pipeline that connects the planned LNG terminal in the port of Mukran with the German gas transmission network in Lubmin. The system improves German and European security of supply and its resilience to crises and was therefore closely monitored and supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK).
In August 2022, StreamTec developed the initial concept of the project with an offshore platform for RWE. When GASCADE stepped into the project in 2023 and became the sole project owner, StreamTec adjusted the concept to allow a direct connection between the harbour of Mukran, which is planned to become a hub for hydrogen and the onshore transmission network in Lubmin. The pipeline and steel components have been designed to be used for future hydrogen service, ensuring that the project meets the energy demands of the future.
Streamtec Solutions AG have been responsible as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the OAL pipeline project, covering all stages from concept, engineering, surveys, scopes, tendering, contract selection & administration, interfaces, permitting, permit compliance, construction and pre-commissioning. The scope included not only the planning and construction of a 50 kilometre CWC/3LPE offshore pipeline but also the building of 2 micro tunnels 2.5m in diameter and 350/750m long to facilitate the landfalls as well as various onshore facilities in Lubmin and Mukran.
It took just 17 months from the start of concept development in August 2022 to mechanical completion of the sea section work in January 2024, setting a new record for delivering the world's fastest offshore pipeline project! This was only possible due to a highly qualified and experienced team, that was able to tackle challenges with a multidisciplinary approach, running many project activities in parallel and pro-actively developing solutions for anticipated issues.
This achievement would not have been possible without the invaluable support and collaboration of key participants. We maintained a close partnership with GASCADE in addition to coordinating seamlessly with approximately 40 contractors to successfully execute this vital gas infrastructure project.
