Nordic Baltic Hydrogen Corridor (NBHC)

Gasgrid, the Finnish Gas TSO, has selected StreamTec Solutions AG as Gasgrid’s Owners Engineering partner to support development of hydrogen transmission infrastructure projects in the Baltic Sea.

This consists of 2 main projects, the Baltic Sea Hydrogen Collector and the offshore section of  the Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor (NBHC).

The NBHC is a collaborative initiative involving gas transmission system operators (TSOs) from six European countries: Gasgrid Finland (Finland), Elering (Estonia), Conexus Baltic Grid (Latvia), Amber Grid (Lithuania), GAZ-SYSTEM (Poland), and ONTRAS (Germany). This project aims to develop a cross-border hydrogen transmission network extending from Finland through the Baltic States and Poland to Germany.

  • December 2022 - Gasgrid Finland, alongside its TSO partners, signed a cooperation agreement to develop the Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor.
  • November 2023 - The project is granted Project of Common Interest (PCI) status.
  • November 2024 - STS are awarded the offshore owners engineer contract by Gasgrid.
  • January 2025 -  NBHC secures €6.8 million in funding from the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).

The corridor will transport up to 2.7 million tons of renewable hydrogen annually between the participating countries by 2040, playing a crucial role in achieving the European Union’s decarbonisation goals.

StreamTec's role will be to provide owners engineering services for the offshore section of the pipeline which will stretch from Finland to Estonia across the Gulf of Finland.

StreamTec Solutions have experience in constructing ultra large offshore pipeline projects, as well as "hydrogen ready" pipelines and are actively involved in the DNV H2 JIP to develop an offshore hydrogen code.

Our contract award from Gasgrid as their owners engineer partner reinforces our position as industry leaders in developing offshore hydrogen systems.
